Scholarship Fund

Dear Smith Alumna,

The Smith College Club of Washington is very proud of its Endowed Scholarship Fund at Smith College. Every year, we are able to support numerous scholarships to Smith College students from the greater metropolitan DC area because of proceeds from this Scholarship Fund.

If you are looking for an easy and convenient way to support the Scholarship Fund, we welcome your direct contribution. All gifts are tax-deductible and will be added to the SCCW’s Endowed Scholarship Fund at Smith College. Your contribution in any amount is greatly appreciated and truly makes a difference to the students who receive the scholarships. We sincerely appreciate the support of those who have contributed in the past, and we hope you will consider doing so again this year!

You may contribute to the SCCW Scholarship Fund in two ways:

  1. Donate right here on the SCCW website by clicking on the "Donate" button below.

  2. Send a check made out to “Smith College Club of Washington Scholarship Fund” to SCCW Scholarship Fund Treasurer Suzanne Mucchetti at:
    6415 Washington Blvd.

Annual Pecan Sale

The Smith College Club of Washington’s main fundraising effort is the annual pecan sale that we conduct in the fall of each year. Again this year, Smithies who are into baking and giving gifts led us to a very successful pecan sale, as many used the bags of pecans as gifts and for their own baking. We sold 768 bags of plain pecans and 360 bags of chocolate covered pecans. We offer our heartfelt thanks to all those who bought pecans from the SCCW in 2022. We hope you’ll be back next fall to buy even more pecans!  Learn how to order pecans during the 2023 sale.

Thanks to our successful sale, we’ll be able to send a sizeable donation to the club’s Endowed Fund that is managed by the college. All profits from the pecan sale are sent to the Endowed Fund and proceeds from this Fund are distributed annually as scholarships to local students.

Our network of Smith alums who sell pecans make this pecan sale work. Special thanks to

these volunteers: Anne Abend, Caroline Soleliac Carbaugh, Kaitlyn Coyne, Colette de Marneffe, Kristy Keteltas, Mindy Kotler, Pru Lake, Suzanne Mucchetti, and Cheryl Stadel-Bevans.

We also appreciate the assistance of local stores that sell our pecans: Brookville Market in

Chevy Chase  and Morgan CARE Pharmacy in Georgetown. Please patronize these businesses throughout the year.

Thank you for supporting our fundraising activities. Because of your generosity, several

students from the Washington area will receive scholarship money to Smith next year.

2023 Pecan Sale

As in years past, in 2023 we will be selling both plain pecans and chocolate pecans. The plain pecans are expected to arrive in early-mid October, and the chocolate pecans will come in late October – early November. Both make for excellent gifts during the holiday season, or they can be used for many baked goods and other recipes.

A pound of high quality extra-large pecan halves will cost $12.00, the same price for the past few years. $3.50 per bag of plain pecans is tax deductible. The chocolate covered pecans are $10.00 for a 12 oz. bag, with $4.10 per bag being tax deductible, again the same price as last year. Thank you all for your support, and thank you to our sellers!

Kaitlyn Coyne is the Pecan Chair for the SCCW.  Several alumnae are storing pecans in their homes for your convenience. To find out how to place an order or find a Smithie near you who has pecans for sale, please email Kaitlyn at  kaitlynmcoyne@gmail.com

The stores listed below have again agreed to sell our pecans. Please support them!
